Decorating for Harvest: Autumn Table Runners, Caramel Apple Cake and More Festive Homemade Touches for the Season

Decorate the outside of your home Autumn continues to be my very favorite time of the year.  The colors in nature that present themselves at this time of the year are breathtaking and change by the moment.  I love the cool temperatures and menu choices we turn to when the weather turns colder.  It is also such a fun time to decorate both indoors and out!

I think that the bounty of the harvest we celebrate at Thanksgiving can be such an amazing inspiration for elegant, welcoming decorations that make your friends and family feel truly cherished in your home. Harvest colors are so warm, inviting and easy to coordinate with items from nature.  Making a tablescape lush with color and texture requires only a trip to your local farmer’s market, floral shop or grocery store and a stroll outdoors to gather the last of the summer blooms and foliage (a trip to the craft store will yield some longer lasting floral arrangements). Combine all of these items with a harvest quilt or an autumn table runner and you will have a harvest-themed setting that is picture perfect.

Transform Spaces with Autumn Table Runners and Quilted Wall Hangings

As dusk approaches, the lingering evening shadows are softened with the warmth and comfort of quilted items of all sizes. Very simple projects like the Autumn Table Runner and the Harvest Table Square, below, are quick to make and transport any space to a special celebration of fall.

To make a grand statement on a room or foyer, hang a harvest quilt on the wall.  This will immediately set the tone of the season.

Whenever I entertain, I love sharing something from my kitchen. Here is recipe for a yummy treat I most recently served to a group of quilters who toured my fall garden.  It is a rich, moist cake Caramel Apple Cake. I hope you and your loved ones enjoy it as much as we did!
